Teamwork – focus of August 2017 Office 365 updates
Another month, another Office 365 update. August 2017 has brought an array of exciting updates to the Office 365 suite, this time with teamwork as their core focus. It covers a variety of features that are specifically created to help you get the most out Office 365 and work with other colleagues more efficiently.
Let’s take a look these new features:
• Excel updates
Probably the most important feature is Microsoft has now made it possible to co-author with other users in Excel. This eliminates the frustration of being locked out of a shared file that’s currently being edited by someone else. Now, if you store the spreadsheets in either, OneDrive and OneDrive for Business or SharePoint, you can then work on these in real time, along with other members of your team. You can easily see who else is working with you and see the changes they’ve made within seconds.
Also included is the AutoSave option. This allows you to save your changes automatically to the cloud while you’re working for later access whenever you need it.
• Microsoft Teams
Using OneNote Class Notebook in Microsoft Teams makes managing their classrooms easier for teachers. It enables full access within the same platform and helps both students and teachers to stay on the same wavelength. New settings mean that assignment scores will now be all in the one place – in a central management system. Along with this, IT control has also been enhanced and improved. IT admins can disable or enable private class assignments and chats helping to create a safe but tailored learning environment.
• Outlook for Windows
Outlook now has a redesigned conversation experience, including the ability to switch between accounts quickly and browse folders. It also makes it easier to keep up to date with chats, whether they are with family, friends or colleagues. Outlook shows a lot more of your conversation history all the while providing clear separation. There’s also a ‘quick reply’ feature, which makes it easier to reply to more than one conversation at once.
• Yammer
The Yammer App has been impressively redesigned. A universal search function is now offered, along with auto sign-in and new updates to the whole design. It helps organisations keep their employees up to date with announcements company-wide and with information that’s accessible while on the go. The Office 365 usage reports have also been updated to now include a Yammer activity report so that you can analyse how well your business connects.
